SIS wire, also known as a switchboard or panelboard wire, is a building wire that is made of an insulated copper conductor, usually tin coated, with thermoset, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. SIS wire is used in dry locations for wiring electrical switchgear, control panels, substations, and equipment. SIS wire is available in a range of sizes from 18 to 4/0AWG.

The meaning of UL SIS Cable is a series of single-core wires with cross-linked polyethylene insulation (XLPE) for electrical distribution boards and panels with voltages up to 600v. National Electrical Code (NEC) sheet 310.104(A) describes Type SIS wire as switchgear and switchboard wire with flame-retardant thermoset insulation for use at temperatures up to 90 degrees Celsius.
